1.8.19 – Seeing Him

*This devotion was first published on Pastor Jess Mahon’s (Rocky Mountain Church) daily blog Fresh Bread. I am a contributing writer when he is away. The original post can be found here.

Jesus is the Word, and He was with God from the very beginning. Nothing was created without Jesus. When Jesus came into the world and began His ministry, no one recognized Him. The world did not see Him, except for John the Baptist. John was a voice shouting in the wilderness, “Clear the way for the Lord is coming!” (v. 23).

When John recognized Jesus as the Lamb of God two of his disciples immediately began following Jesus (v.36-37). Through John’s teachings, they recognized Jesus as the Son of God. Even before His public ministry began, Jesus declared that we would see even greater things.

“Then he said, “I tell you the truth, you will see heaven open and the angels of God going up and down on the Son of Man, the one who is the stairway between heaven and earth.”” (v. 51).

Do you recognize God when you see Him? Is your heart open to His Word when He speaks to you, or when others speak His Word around you? I encourage you this morning to read John 1 in its entirety and set your heart toward seeing Him. You can find Him throughout the moments of each day. Where will you see and hear Him today? Only God knows, but we can be sensitive to Holy Spirit to recognize His moments for us.

Enjoy the View,
T. Dalton
