“And on that day, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, each of you will invite your neighbor to sit with you peacefully under your own grapevine and fig tree.” – Zechariah 3:10
A day will come when all of God’s people will sit in peace with one another, under protection, shielded from the attacks and accusations of the enemy.
The day is today.
The Lord promised He would forever remove the sins of the land in a single day (Zechariah 3:8-9). His promises are faithful and were fulfilled on the day Jesus Christ died on the Cross. A sinless lamb, Jesus bore the literal weight of the world on His shoulders as He carried His cross to Calvary, where He was hung and beaten until His final breath. The clouds darkened as the veil was torn. His final words echoed in the air. “It is finished.”
For us, the clouds were only darkened for a moment. Three days later the skies opened up again when Jesus walked out of the tomb with His resurrected body. He bore our sins, conquered death, and removed our filthy, sinful rags. When we accept His free gift of grace we are adopted into the family of God as sons and daughters of the Most High King, princes and princesses of this world. We are cleansed, clothed in righteousness, a new outfit made for royalty. We are given authority in the Kingdom, and we walk in our authority when we live in peace in this fallen world. Our walk of peace is a symbol to others of things to come – the return of our Savior Jesus Christ and the peace He will bring to this chaotic world.
God promised to remove the sins of our world in a single day, and He did. We now walk with hopeful abandon for His coming return to this world, when He will bring with him our eternal peace, when we will be able to worship Him forever and ever. Amen.
“To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.” – Revelation 1:5b-7
No matter what storm of life you may be walking through today, be encouraged by the hope which is alive in you because of Jesus Christ. He has taken your sin, and all the sins of this world, and He brings His peace to fill the old space and make it new. Walk in hope and peace today and every day.
