As we’ve been exploring these first few days in Albania, we’ve seen a culture which still creates. A lot of the markets feature handmade goods, and it is beautiful. There is a lot of color, from the buildings to the people. In a culture which is still developing as a country, having been free for only a short time, it is beautiful to see the people coming into their own.
I love to write. I love to sketch. I love taking pictures. I may not be the best, but I enjoy creating something new. It’s exciting to bring something from inside your head to real life, even if it doesn’t always look perfect. It’s the process which makes it unique. I have found many countries which still create their goods. For most, it’s how they make money to live, but they are still creating. I appreciate a culture where people still use their gifts and talents to make things with their hands. It’s creative, fun, and sometimes challenging. Creating causes zeal and passion in earning a living.
It seems in America it’s become less about creativity, and more about earning money. The money becomes the end to the means, but the passion is no longer there for the job. It may be a job well done, but it doesn’t bring the joy of creating something. I’ve found in other countries, including here in Albania, even when the creating is for a living, there is a joy in the creating that can’t be hidden. They are proud to show their goods, and that someone else might enjoy what their hands made.
All we need to do is look around us to see what creativity can do. The God of the universe created all we see. Each scene is different, each person is unique, and we are all made in the image of God. His creativity is endless, and as His children we each have a piece of His creativity. When we let it thrive, we can see His endless creation in each of us.
Albania is full of creative nature. The pictures don’t quite do it justice, but here a few for your enjoyment.
