Living By Love

There is nothing like the love of God for His children. Although we are called to, it is so hard to replicate here on earth. We live in a fallen world, but God has already won the battle and the war. However, the enemy still rules the earth for now, and we still need to fight our battle. Our weapon: love. We know love because He first loved us. He sent His one and only Son as a spotless lamb of sacrifice so that we could be reconciled with Him. That is the greatest kind of love – to lay down your life for the ones that you love. Jesus did that for us.

We are called to live out that love. When we receive the greatest love from God we are to turn around and give that love away to everyone else. By giving away love, we are filled again and able to receive more, which in turn allows us to give away even more love.

Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; write them on the table of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man.” – Proverbs 3:3-4

In this world, however, we get distracted and discouraged by all of the sadness and anger surrounding us. We are always searching for love, whether we realize what we’re actually seeking or not. Finding someone who loves to the fullest and lives as such an example of Christ is such a blessing. To be able to walk with them is an incredible experience that only brings you closer to your Heavenly Father and leaves you changed forever. These relationships don’t fill the God-sized void that each one of us has, but they do draw you into a closer relationship with the only One who can truly fill that void: God our Father. This is the most important relationship. When we are with God, we are able to bring others to God because of love. They know who we are because of our love. When we love God, we love others into the Kingdom. This is living in Christ. This is what being alive is all about. This is the greatest command.

I am inspired by a song from Bethel music as I write this and want to leave you with some of the lyrics that perfectly sums up what living in Christ is like for all us.

It’s always like springtime with You
Making all things new
Your light is breaking through the dark
This love it is sweeter than wine
Bringing joy, bringing life
Your hope is rising like the dawn

This is what You do
This is what You do
You make me come alive

You make me come alive
You make me come alive
You make me come alive

It’s like I’m living for the first time
Finally living for the first time

-Bethel Music, “This Is What You Do”
